Your day-to-day   

This role is all about collaborating across disciplines to test hypotheses and make a difference to customers. As a product backend engineer you’ll work in a squad alongside product managers, marketers, user researchers, designers, mobile engineers, web engineers, data analysts, business analysts, writers and more! 

Together you’ll build and support a particular part of Monzo. Our product squads belong to our widercollectives(a word we use to describe self-governing business units of ~100 people). They are; Money, Borrowing, Fincrime, Customer Operations, Platform, Personal Banking & Business Banking. They’re all looking for additional Backend Engineers right now, we do a standard interview process across all our collectives and at the end we will find the best match for you based on your skills, experience, preferences and aligning with the business need! 

Our backend engineers have a variety of different backgrounds. As long as you enjoy learning new things, we’d love to talk to you. We do not ask for formal qualifications or degree requirements for any of our engineering roles.

ABOUT THE JOB

We believe that high-quality data is essential for any business organization, as such we are looking for a strong software engineer excited to raise our efficiency, quality and scalability bar. You will be able to have extensive ownership and the ability to help set best practices and contribute to product and infrastructure features. 

As a craft leader, you'll be responsible for contributing to the vision, strategy and development of our multi-platform reporting system that is efficient, scalable, and meets diverse user needs. You will advocate for data quality, correctness, scalability and latency standards to ensure consistency in how we enable data-driven decisions and features across the organization. 

You will also be proactive in spearheading new initiatives, coding and documenting components, writing and reviewing system design documents and partnering with other teams and functions to gather and understand our customer's requirements. You will think and plan strategically for short and long term initiatives to continue shaping our platform and products.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent proven industry experience (4+ years).
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • Comprehensive understanding of distributed systems, proven experience with data processing technologies such as DBT and Airflow and common web frameworks such as Rails.
  • Highly proficient with SQL, capable of writing and reviewing complex queries for data analysis and debugging.
  • You can design for scale with the entire system in mind.
  • Solid communicator, comfortable seeking and receiving feedback.
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills.
  • Strong sense of ownership working with a large codebase and diverse suite of products.

Je belangrijkste verantwoordelijkheden:

  • Je behaalt je sales targets;

  • Je neemt het voortouw bij het opbouwen van effectieve relaties met potentiële en bestaande klanten door een zeer persoonlijke en professionele service te bieden;

  • Je volgt de uitkomsten van marketing campagnes op en verzorgt samen met onze marketing afdeling media om prospects mee aan te trekken via verschillende kanalen;

  • Je blijft op de hoogte van de strategie en activiteiten van onze concurrenten en om nieuwe groeimogelijkheden voor de organisatie te identificeren;

  • Je identificeert mogelijkheden voor cross-selling van producten en diensten van Veolia om extra business te genereren.

About the role

As a Presales Solutions Architect, you will work proactively with the technical community in the West region to innovate and develop technical strategies and solutions supporting a common outcome. What you’ll be doing

  • Engaging with the Dremio Sales Team and Prospects in preparing and presenting the Dremio product and technology while addressing any technical questions or concerns that come up during the sales cycle
  • Supporting the technical needs of customers and resolving technical issues, along with engaging them on any additional issues, problems, or opportunities regarding the Dremio product.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the Dremio product and technology and work closely with Engineering, Sales and others to resolve critical technical issues

What we’re looking for

  • 8-10+ years experience with the majority of experience in large enterprise as a Sales Engineer/Presales Solutions Architect
  • Knowledge of Databases, specifically MPP analytic databases and data warehousing concepts
  • Strong understanding of data architecture concepts, including data lakes, data virtualization, and data mesh principles
  • Working knowledge of Linux, comfortable installing, debugging and integrating applications on Linux platform
  • Strong experience and expertise in SQL queries, syntax, data modeling and optimization 
  • Knowledge of various data storage technologies, such as HDFS, Amazon S3, Azure Data Lake Storage, and relational databases
  • Experience with data integration techniques, including ETL/ELT processes, data ingestion, and data transformation
  • Familiarity with big data processing frameworks like Apache Spark, Hadoop MapReduce, and Hive
  • Ability to perform performance tuning and optimization of Dremio queries and workflows
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI) and understanding of data visualization best practices
  • Knowledge of data security and privacy best practices, including authentication, authorization, and data encryption
  • Great presentation skills with the ability to speak in front of audiences
  • Ability to travel at least 30% of the time
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to design and implement solutions to complex data challenges
  • Ability to design and lead the implementation of large-scale, enterprise-level data architectures
  • Ability to articulate technical concepts and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences

Your impact

As a Data Scientist, Trust, you will: 

  • Apply your knowledge of advanced statistics and Machine Learning methods to help protect our users’ identities and accounts and identify bad actors through data insights.
  • Proactively identify security threats and anomalies across various product and infrastructure domains.

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer (backend) to help us continue to build the next evolution of our platform in a scalable, performant and customer-centric oriented architecture.

 

Our main tech stack includes : AWS, Kubernetes, Python, Kafka, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Kinesis, Typescript, React

 

If you haveproduction scale experience in a different stack (Go, Java, Scala, C#, etc.) and are interested in moving to a new stack, we should chat.

 

What you'll be doing

 

We are typically organized into agile cross-functional teams composed of Engineering, Product and Design, which allows us to develop deep expertise and rapidly deliver high value features and functionality.

You’ll be part of a close knit team of Engineers developing the next generation of our T3 Fleet application that enablesend-users  to track, monitor and manage the health of their connected vehicles and deployed assets.
Recent initiatives include building connected camera features so that customers can better monitor safety & compliance in vehicles, and improving geofence experience to offer insights about assets within a boundary.

We'll be there to support you as you become familiar with our teams, product domains, tech stack and processes — generally how we all work together.

 

As a Staff Software Engineer you will 

 

  • Help design, build and deliver the services and domains that power our platform — shaping the product features andcapabilities that underpin our platform.
  • Provide technical leadership – leading by example both within your team/domain and across our organization.
  • Exert your passion and thinking to shape the technical direction of our product and platform domains.  Using best of breed languages, frameworks and technologies.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers and Engineers to take ideas from concept to delivery.  Balancing the desire to ship code with the responsibility to get it right.
  • Contribute to our culture improving how we deliver as a team.  Helping us to leave things better than we find them and making it easier for us to get stuff done.
  • Support, coach and mentor Engineers within our team by sharing your insight, knowledge and experience as welearn and grow together.

  • Proficient with a high order object oriented language. (especially Python - open to Go, Java, Scala, C# etc.)
  • 9+ years of relevant development experience building production grade solutions.
  • Delivery focused with solid exposure to event driven architectures and high volume data processing.
  • Practical exposure of CI/CD pipelines for your production services.
  • Familiarity with public cloud service platforms.
  • Experience partnering and collaborating with remote teams (across different time zones).
  • Proven track record in learning new technologies and applying that learning quickly.
  • Experience building observability and monitoring into applications.

Some of the things that would be nice to have, but not required:

  • Familiar with containerisation and Kubernetes.
  • Practical production knowledge of service oriented architectures.
  • Experience with streaming technologies. (AWS Kinesis, Kafka, etc.)
