Brightcove’s Global Services team is not a typical professional services organization, but is Brightcove’s full-service agency for our clients. The team augments our platform and product by building custom video-centric web, mobile, and OTT solutions for a variety of customers across the globe. A perfect candidate for a Technical Lead in Brightcove’s Global Services team will have strong hands-on coding skills; have organized and led distributed teams while building best practices (unit testing, code reviews, security and performance audits); and, most importantly, will have delighted clients with their teams’ work. The Technical Lead partners with the Project Manager on each project to ensure a quality and timely deliverable that will delight the customer.

Job Responsibilities

Consulting: Technical Leads are part of the senior team that manage the client and are called upon to facilitate user requirements sessions, design technical specifications, and manage development of documentation to meet client expectations. In conjunction with a Project Manager, Technical Leads are expected to provide both technical and solution expertise for clients and client engagements.
Solution Development: Technical Leads work with Solution Architects and Business Analysts to create solutions for various client needs. Technical Leads support the analysis of client processes and recommend new business models, workflows, or solutions to best meet client needs.
Leadership: Technical Leads manage all technical aspects of the project and also contribute directly by writing code, managing builds and performing other hands-on tasks. Technical Leads are responsible for the enforcement and guidance of project technical best practices and standards. Technical Leads have the ability to exercise independent judgment in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
Team Management:Technical Leads manage varying sized project teams to successfully deliver agreed-upon solutions of the highest quality, exceeding customer expectations. They mentor and guide less experienced consultants. They are expected to be role models for best practices and to provide technical knowledge sharing.

Skills/Qualifications/Experience

8+ years experience as a technical developer or related work experience; 2+ years in technical leadership roles; experience in a project-based consulting environment
Expertise implementing solutions from a defined architecture for various problem types
Extensive knowledge in the areas of custom software development: OO Design Patterns; microservices, middleware, etc.
Strong proficiency with at least one server-side language (Node.js and/or Python preferred) required
Strong proficiency with vanilla JavaScript
Strong Object Oriented Programming skills
Deep understanding of the React JavaScript framework
Understanding data security compliance and security best practices
Experience in profiling, debugging and troubleshooting systems
Solid understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases; data modeling/design techniques; data interface protocols; database deployment and scalability; database tuning
Strong understanding of designing and implementing proper REST APIs
Extensive experience with designing systems for scale and reuse, source code management strategies, and release management
Strong and effective verbal and written communications skills; as well as strong and effective presentation and facilitation skills
Willingness to travel to client locations and collaborate with distributed delivery teams as needed
Solid knowledge of system administration and software and hardware configuration and production system deployments; ability to make informed recommendations to customer IT staff; ability to troubleshoot pre- and post-production implementations; security; load balancing and performance
AWS experience strongly preferred
Understanding differences between multiple delivery platforms, such as mobile vs. desktop, and optimizing output to match the specific platform
Knowledge of web accessibility and SEO a plus
JIRA and Confluence experience a plus

Working Environment

This role is a hybrid role and thus you must live in a commutable distance to the London office. Interaction and cross team interaction is valuable to us so we would like you to meet with the team regularly, in the London office. We hold quarterly BSocial events so that you can connect with the team. The office is located in the heart of Central London and has a fully stocked kitchen with amenities that include a bike shed, fully stocked showers with towels, shower gel etc.

OUR NEW SENIOR BACKEND DEVELOPER 

As a Senior Backend Developer you will get to work on innovating Cloud-based software with the goal of full-scale autonomy when operating Public Clouds. You will also provide technical leadership and mentorship to other team members.

SOME OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Develop Cloud-based software backend, ensuring high performance and scalability;
Help create, maintain and follow best practices for development work including coding, testing, source control, build automation, continuous deployment and continuous delivery 
Contribute to software engineering excellence by mentoring other team members 
Participate in the development process relying on your technical expertise 
Keep up to date on technology innovations

SOME OF OUR REQUIREMENTS: 

Deep knowledge of software development methodologies and abilities to quickly adopt to languages and platforms when needed  
Extensive development experience in C#/.NET 
Experience in writing REST APIs
Experience in developing multi tenant applications
Experience with DevOps including CI/CD and Configuration Management 
Experience in cloud application development for one of cloud providers (Microsoft Azure, AWS or GCP) 
Experience working with source code repository management systems, such as GitHub, and Azure DevOps

It would be awesome, if you have: 

Understanding of AI and Machine Learning 
Experience in building and supporting complex distributed SaaS solutions 
Solid knowledge of database technologies (RDBMS and NoSQL) 
Familiarity with some data engineering tools is a plus: Databricks, BigQuerry.
Experience with workflow orchestration engines, e.g. Cadence, Temporal, Airflow, AWS step functions, etc.

Overview:

LivePerson is growing fast, and we want our technology to keep up. We’re seeking a Database Engineer II to help define how we accomplish this goal, and to help us achieve it.

You will:

Understand the design and architecture of new highly-available and fault-tolerant cloud-based databases, as well as how we redesign existing systems
Participate and collaborate with the team taking ownership of the most intellectually-demanding parts of solutions and deliver bar-raising solutions
Investigate hard-to-pin-down problems across a complex and distributed architecture so you can explain root causes and propose solutions
Make a case for how we stay ahead of capacity issues and limit the blast radius of issues when a cluster is stressed
Work with database clients to improve their use of databases (e.g. optimize queries, evolve data models)
Advocate for solutions that help teams launch quality software without compromising delivery speed.
Work on automation of database infrastructure and help engineering succeed by providing self-service tools

You have:

Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent training or work experience.
5+ years of experience building successful production software systems
Experience configuring any of the following database systems: MySQL, Cassandra, Couchbase, Elasticsearch, NoSQL
Experience configuring and administering BI database system like Vertica is ideal
Experience managing database systems in a hybrid cloud (on-prem & public cloud)
Familiarity with distributed event streaming platforms, especially Kafka
Familiarity creating architectures that scale with volume and are fault-tolerant
Experience with distributed persistent systems & asynchronous messaging
Experience tuning distributed systems to improve their performance under increasing volumes of traffic
Proven ability to work in a fully remote environment with people across the globe
Relevant certifications are a plus (e.g AWS Certification, Google Cloud Platform Certification)

Essential Qualifications:

2+ years of experience in managing an engineering team
5-10 years of hands on scripting/coding one or more programming languages (Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Groovy, Python) and test automation frameworks (Playwright, Selenium, WebdriverIO, Spock, REST-assured)
Intermediate SQL expertise & hands on experience with MySQL (or similar relational databases or NoSQL databases)

Experience building Microservices and APIs
Experience with Agile (eg Scrum) and test driven development
