Your impact

Handshake is hiring a Technical Lead Manager, Machine Learning with a focus on Generative AI and Recommendations reporting to our Head of Core Relevance. 

AI is the future and we are excited to further invest in providing AI resources for our users on our platform. Is it possible to thoughtfully design a responsible, AI-driven product that can help our students progress from educational aspirations to career achievements?  In this role, you will work on tackling that goal as part of a lean, high-visibility team. You will be responsible for helping advance our AI product and infrastructure vision towards our mission of democratizing opportunity for millions of students on Handshake.

You will be part of a high-impact org that has already built a Data platform housing billions of data points, with cutting-edge production systems such as embedding-based retrieval, Graph Neural Networks, Fine-Tuned LLMs, and multi-stage rankers.  You will level up existing ML systems and drive marketplace metrics, while also accelerating greenfield AI-based products such as Social/Feed.  We’ll do all of this responsibly, with developed workstreams around Explainability, Fairness, and Quality.

Your role

  • You will be a Force Multiplier - setting technical direction, shaping engineering culture, identifying and adopting industry best practices, designing effective partnerships across the company, mentoring and coaching direct reports / peers, and more. 
  • You will be a Leader-  managing a lean team of machine learning engineers and data scientists while enabling effective collaboration, high-quality execution, and technical excellence across the Data organization
  • You will be an Innovator -  developing algorithms and Machine Learning systems that connect users across the Handshake marketplace; from students looking for their first jobs and internships to employers sourcing candidates for high-priority roles.
  • You will be a Collaborator -being an effective partner to product managers; you will work with product managers in driving new user experiences through Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing and build experiments that drive key product decisions and provide invaluable insights.

Your experience

You are an experienced, hands-on senior engineering leader with extensive experience identifying problems, coming up with technical solutions, and driving projects to completion. You care about culture, mentorship, and collaboration just as much as you care about coding, architecture, and technical design. You have an extreme user-focus, you are comfortable with ambiguity, you can drive alignment, and you make thoughtful data-driven decisions. 

  • Basic Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent technical experience.
    • 7+ years of industry ML experience
    • Experience as Tech Lead or Manger 
  • Preferred Qualifications:  
    • End-to-End experience building web-scale AI systems, feature stores, microservices
    • Background in one or more of the following areas of machine learning: recommendations, optimization, natural language processing (NLP), deep learning, LLMs, explainable AI
    • Experience building applications atop of IAAS (Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, Azure Cloud Services, etc.)
    • Experience working directly with cross-functional teams such as product management, analytics, engineering, and design.
    • Excellent communication skills — ability to succinctly communicate results and tell compelling stories with data to an out-of-domain audience (e.g. presenting findings and deep-dives to senior leadership).

Compensation range

  • $235,000-$300,000

What we do?

Work with early adopters (customers) to validate AI solutions and realize value by learning and quickly improving the solution on real customer data. We'll create practical implementation guides to support new implementations, boost adoption, and drive future product innovation. Some of the work from the team has been instrumental at improving customer adoption of our multi-language Natural Language Understanding (NLU), AI search, Task Intelligence, Issue Auto Resolution, Document Intelligence, and most recently, Generative AI with customers.

What you get to do in this role:

  • You will implement AI products on the Now platform for our early adopter customers hands on.
    • Such products include all Now Assist Capabilities like LLM-powered VA Topic flows, conversational catalogs, AI Search (with Q&A) and many other latest applications.
    • You will also be expected to learn and support customers with existing AI products like Virtual Agent, NLU, AI Search, Issue Auto Resolution, Task Intelligence, Document Intelligence, and other upcoming capabilities before/after they hit the market. These capabilities may include classical Machine Learning Algorithms or Deep Learning based models like LLMs.
  • You will be expected to learn about the newly released and pre-release features by getting your hands dirty and diving deep into the products. You will become an expert at implementing AI Solutions for various customers.
  • You will debug and find quick workarounds for issues that are solvable on customer instances.
  • Act as an SME to solve complex user issues related to AI solutions.
  • You will not only validate these newly introduced products, but also work alongside other teams to help them quickly make improvements to the product. Help with getting product feedback to product and engineering teams to continually improve and expand product capabilities, features, and interoperability in consideration of customer needs and requirements. You will bring the on-ground issues faced by customers to the table.
  • Help define best practices to build and use AI products and various AI testing tools with customers and educate the team.  Such tools may involve auto conflict detection, automation discovery, topic recommendation, batch testing tools, or generative AI tools.
  • Analyze metrics to continuously measure the quality and E2E experiences of AI solutions with actionable insights.
  • Prepare technical deliverables for customers in a consistent, high-quality, and timely manner.
  • Be the technical escalation point in solving customer issues and coordinating and prioritizing timely resolutions with our engineering team. You will be hands on resolving issues for customers as you work live with engineering teams.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you have:

Technical Skills
Must Haves:

  • Experience and fluency with ServiceNow Workflows and Flow Designer.
  • Expertise with ServiceNow scripting (Glide JavaScript) with knowledge of best practices and an understanding of why those are recommended. You should be thorough with Business Rules, Script Includes, Scheduled Jobs, Client Scripts, UI Policies.
  • You should have great command of Now Platform building blocks like forms, tables, app development, update sets, instance upgrades, and provisioning.
  • Passionate and persistent technical problem-solver with experience handling integrations with various systems and building applications on the platform to solve business problems.
  • You should be well-versed in the art of debugging on the platform.

Good to have:

  • We would like to dive deep into as many of the following areas as you have worked on:
    • Preferred expertise with integrations and Integration Hub.
    • Preferred experience with any AI solution like Virtual Agent flows, AI Search, Predictive Intelligence, IAR, TI, etc.
    • Preferred expertise with Performance Analytics Reporting (PAR).

  • Design and architect the AI/ML models platform to support scalable, efficient, and high-performance machine learning workflows. 
  • Build and manage infrastructure that supports the deployment of machine learning models. This includes leveraging cloud services (AWS), CDK, and containerization tools like Docker.

Твої майбутні завдання:

  • Тестування мобільних застосунків та сайту (регресійне, функціональне та нефункціональне);
  • Тестування API сервісів;

What you’ll do

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development and maintenance of software applications and systems. You will be responsible for leading and contributing to complex software projects, providing technical expertise, and mentoring junior engineers. You will expand capabilities, bring new solutions to market. As a member of the MLOps team you will be responsible for systems which train models and produce predictions.

 

More specifically, you will:

  • Software Development: Design, develop, test, and maintain our complex software applications, ensuring high-quality code and adherence to best practices. Play a critical role in the development and maintenance of our software products by designing, building, evolving, and scaling state-of-the-art solutions for our Pindrop platform.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers and the development team, including code reviews, architecture decisions, and mentoring. 
  • Architecture and Design: Contribute to the design and architecture of software systems, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and performance
  • Problem Solving: Analyze and solve complex technical problems, and make recommendations for improvements and optimizations.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and advocate for best practices in testing and quality assurance, including unit testing, integration testing, and automated testing.
  • Code Review: Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure code quality and consistency.
  • Research and Innovation: Stay current with emerging technologies, tools, and programming languages and apply them where relevant to improve software development processes.
  • Security and Compliance: Ensure software adheres to security standards and compliance requirements, addressing vulnerabilities and potential risks.
  • Design and implement cloud solutions, build MLOps on cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Build CI/CD pipelines orchestration by GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Circle CI, Airflow or similar tools
  • Data science model review: run code and refactor, optimize, containerize, deploy, version, and monitor its quality
  • Validate and add automated tests for Data Science models
  • Work closely with a team of researchers and data scientists to productionize and document research innovations

    • A strong understanding of software design principles, software architecture and design patterns as well as software development best practices, including testing, version control, and continuous integration
    • Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform or AWS CDK
    • Experience in monitoring and performance of Production platforms using tech stacks and tools such as Datadog, ELK, Grafana, Prometheus
    • Participation in on-call rotation required
  • Nice to Have
    • Experience with Machine Learning frameworks and libraries such as XGBoost, SciKit-Learn, H2O, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, Spark MLlib

Your experience

  • Basic Qualifications
