Position description:

PredictionHealth is looking for a (paid) software and DevOps engineering intern who is flexible, fast to pick up new skills, and dedicated to maintaining and improving a production system. The intern will have direct responsibilities involving development and operations using Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, and similar as our service scales up to support more users. Additional development tasks may involve web-interaction-based robotic process automation and collection and processing of data for data science purposes.

Applicants should work well under time pressure as this role may from time to time involve putting out figurative “fires” and providing support to important clinical users.

Requirements:

- Exposure to GCP and/or AWS

- Experience with Python

- Familiarity with GCP’s Datastore and/or more standard SQL databases

- Courses and prior experience in computer science and software engineering

Preferred:

- Proficiency with JavaScript

- Experience launching and maintaining cloud servers

- Use of UI automation tools like Selenium (preferred) or PyAutoGUI.

- Proficiency with Golang

- Previous experience related to healthcare

About this role:

We’re looking for somebody with deep experience building, scaling, and tuning complex search products. We’re rethinking the search experience in Monzo to enable 10 million customers to find what they’re looking for – transactions, products, help articles, people, and more – in as few keystrokes as possible. 

This role sits in our Core Banking product collective, collaborating closely with ML Platform and a range of product teams across the business with a stake in how search results are ranked and displayed. You’ll be a key influence in the long-term product strategy for search at Monzo.

Initially, you’ll own 3 key challenges:

  1. Launch a global search experienceworking end-to-end from customer experience in our mobile apps to backend systems, indexes, and data pipelines
  2. Scale search to support all Monzo’s account types (incl. Business Banking, US) and internationalisation
  3. Optimise resultswith machine learning models and build feedback loops to measure search performance (e.g. latency and relevance) 

As a Staff Engineer:

A Staff Engineer at Monzo is a technical (IC) leadership position. As a Staff Engineer in the Core Banking collective, you will:

  • Partner with engineering leadership in the collective and provide technical leadership on the search domain across Monzo’s broader engineering organisation.
  • Work collaboratively with leaders in product, data, research, and design to identify and execute on opportunities that further the organisation’s goals and strategy.
  • Oscillate between contributing to high-level planning and strategy and organisational leadership and diving deep into the execution of problems and getting hands-on.
  • Use your expert knowledge and experience to lead architectural discussions for the most complex systems in the collective. 
  • Keep a high bar for technical excellence in the collective, through your own work, highlighting the work of others and calling out when things haven’t quite met the bar.
  • Pro-actively mentor, sponsor and up-level engineers.

We rely heavily on the following tools and technologies, please note direct experience in these technologies is not required and our interview process can be completed in any language:

  • Cassandra for most persistent data storage

Purpose of the Role

You will play a key role in shaping the future of the Systems Engineering function at Zego.

  • Drive improvements to the Zego Hosting Platform at scale, influence change and buy-in across the organisation.
  • Play a key role in defining technical solutions with a detailed analysis of costs, risks, performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Approach our processes critically, identify areas of improvement and balance business priorities against technical compromises.

What you will need to be successful

We are looking for engineers who embrace the DevOps culture to deliver continuous improvements to our security posture. Engaging with and empowering the teams to drive change leveraging metrics, championing automation and operational excellence.

  • Good coding and scripting skills in languages such as Bash and Python with a focus on automating infrastructure tasks, monitoring, and process optimisation.
  • Experience configuring Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, Crossplane, and Helm, with a focus on building scalable, reliable, and reproducible infrastructure.
  • In-depth knowledge of AWS cloud services, especially core services like VPC, S3, EC2, Kinesis, RDS, and EKS, with experience in multi-account setups and optimising for performance and cost-efficiency.
  • Skilled in container management and orchestration using Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Service Mesh (ie. Istio) and GitOps (ie. ArgoCD), with a focus on streamlined deployments and managing complex service-oriented architectures.
  • Experienced in leveraging observability tools, such as Honeycomb (OpenTelemetry) and DataDog, to support data-driven decisions across the wider engineering team.
  • Comprehensive understanding of networking in cloud environments, including VPN solutions, efficient network configuration, load balancing, and troubleshooting.
  • Extensive experience designing, implementing, and optimising CI/CD pipelines to ensure reliable, automated delivery of code across development, testing, and production environments.

If possible, we'd also love you to have

  • Experience with maintaining relational and non-relational databases.

You will be joining our Infrastructure squad as a Lead Site Reliability Engineer to ensure that Plum’s systems are resilient, secure, scalable, observable and fully capable to support our growth. You will support our Engineering function to use our infrastructure in the most efficient way. What you will be doing:

  • Lead the SRE team in their daily work, provide mentoring and growth their skills and career
  • Identify initiatives to improve efficiency, raise the bar of the SRE function, prioritise team’s work, define a strategic vision aligned with company’s goals
  • Be an advocate of costs management (FinOps) and able to propose solutions to optimise our infrastructure

Job Description

Position Summary 

As the Senior Manager of Data Engineering, you will be accountable for delivering impactful data solutions that align with company objectives. This includes strong collaboration with product, and analytics teams, with a focus on data-driven impact and scalability. In this role, you will lead the data engineering team, ensuring seamless execution of data roadmaps and fostering engineering excellence. As a leader of leaders, you will mentor managers, team leads, and architects, empowering them to build high-performing teams dedicated to creating valuable data products. 

What will you do: 

  • Work with Product and Analytics teams to define and implement a strategic data roadmap that includes advanced analytics and AI/ML capabilities. Champion data-mesh principles to enable decentralized ownership and accessibility across teams. 

  • Design and oversee scalable, robust data architectures and ETL pipelines, leveraging AWS services like Redshift, Glue, and Lambda, ensuring support for machine learning, advanced analytics, and governance. 

  • Partner closely with data scientists and analytics teams to create data infrastructures that support real-time analytics and ML model deployment, delivering actionable insights that drive business decisions. 

  • Drive initiatives to enhance data security, stability, and governance, establishing frameworks that uphold quality, consistency, and regulatory compliance across ATPCO’s data ecosystem. 

  • Mentor and lead multiple teams of data engineers and analytics professionals, fostering technical growth and a shared commitment to data quality. Encourage innovative approaches to data automation and performance tuning. 

  • Continuously refine data engineering practices for efficiency and resilience, optimizing workflows and monitoring costs within the AWS environment, with a focus on scalable, automated data solutions. 

  • Foster a culture that values innovation and experimentation, empowering teams to explore new techniques in data, analytics, and AI, including generative AI models. 

  • Ensure the operational health and performance of data products in cloud environments, maintaining high availability, fault tolerance, and performance optimization across all services. 

  • Establish a data lake, data mesh, and advanced data modeling-first approach, creating well-structured data practices with an API-driven methodology that improves usability and governance. 

  • Own and lead internal data analytics platforms, collaborating with finance and operations to identify cost optimization opportunities, manage data product P&L, and establish benchmarks for data-driven outcomes. 

 

 

 

 

What will make you a great fit: 

  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering roles focused on high-volume, complex data applications, with 5+ years in people leadership. 

  • Proven ability to build and manage high-quality data products and infrastructure, with experience leading cross-functional teams in complex data environments. 

  • Technical expertise in a wide range of AWS services, including Redshift, Glue, S3, Lambda, EMR, Kinesis, EC2, API Gateway, serverless technologies, and container services such as ECS and EKS, integrated with data orchestration tools. Proficiency in Python, SQL, or Scala, plus experience with ML frameworks. 

  • Experience with database management (RDBMS, NoSQL, graph databases) and big data frameworks, including Apache Spark and Hadoop, showcasing your ability to design and optimize complex data architectures and process large-scale data efficiently. 

  • Strong communication skills to align cross-functional teams and convey technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders. 

  • Familiarity with airline or travel industry data needs is advantageous. 

  • Track record of fostering inclusive environments that encourage innovation, teamwork, and diverse perspectives. 

 

 

Other Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Proficiency in cloud-native data services (AWS, Azure, GCP) and container tools (Docker, Kubernetes) for scalable data infrastructure. 

  • Familiarity with cloud security best practices, ensuring the secure deployment and maintenance of data solutions. 

  • Commitment to advancing data engineering and analytics practices, ensuring cutting-edge solutions. 

Salary Range:  USD $163,900 to $193,000
