Job Description

About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced and visionary Senior Platform Engineer to lead the development and optimization of our AWS cloud infrastructure. In this role, you will leverage your deep expertise in cloud technologies, particularly AWS, to drive architectural decisions, automate infrastructure, and implement cutting-edge solutions to improve platform reliability, scalability, and performance. As a senior member of the team, you will collaborate closely with leadership, mentor junior engineers, and play a key role in shaping the future of our cloud strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

· Lead the design and implementation of highly available, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure in AWS, ensuring alignment with business needs and best practices.

· Architect cloud solutions that are optimized for performance, security, and cost-efficiency, including multi-region, multi-account, and hybrid cloud architectures.

· Drive automation initiatives, building robust Infrastructure as Code (IaC) frameworks using tools like AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, or Ansible to automate the provisioning, scaling, and monitoring of cloud resources.

· Provide technical leadership and mentorship to platform engineers, guiding them in cloud best practices, security, DevOps methodologies, and problem-solving approaches.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, development, and security to ensure seamless integration of services and applications with the cloud infrastructure.

· Oversee the implementation and management of CI/CD pipelines, ensuring fast, reliable, and automated deployment processes.

· Lead complex troubleshooting and performance tuning efforts for cloud infrastructure and applications, ensuring the highest levels of reliability and performance.

· Implement security best practices for cloud infrastructure, including monitoring, logging, and incident response, working closely with security and compliance teams to maintain a secure cloud environment.

· Evaluate and integrate new AWS services and emerging cloud technologies to enhance platform capabilities and drive continuous improvement.

· Develop and enforce governance models for cloud environments, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational policies.

· Act as the subject matter expert (SME) on AWS, providing guidance to executives and stakeholders on cloud strategy and infrastructure investments.

 

Qualifications:

· 10+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure design and management, with a strong focus on AWS.

· Expertise in architecting, implementing, and managing complex cloud environments, including large-scale, distributed systems.

· Proven experience withInfrastructure as Code (IaC), particularly with AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, or Ansible.

· Strong experience withLinux/Unix systems and automation through scripting languages such as Python, Bash, etc.

· In-depth knowledge ofnetworking, security, and cloud architecture best practicesin AWS environments, including VPC design, IAM, and encryption.

· Experience implementing and optimizing CI/CD pipelines with tools like Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline, or GitLab CI.

· Advanced proficiency withmonitoring, logging, and observability tools (CloudWatch, Datadog, Prometheus) to ensure infrastructure health and performance.

· Leadership and mentoring experience, with a proven ability to guide junior engineers and promote a culture of continuous learning.

· Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with experience in root cause analysis of complex cloud issues.

· Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have):

· AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Professional), AWS Certified DevOps Engineer (Professional), or other advanced AWS certifications.

· Deep experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration in the cloud.

· Expertise in multi-cloud or hybrid cloud strategies, including working with both AWS and other cloud platforms like Azure or Google Cloud.

· Experience with service mesh architectures (e.g., Istio, Linkerd) and microservices deployment in AWS.

· Hands-on experience withsecurity compliance frameworks (e.g., SOC2, HIPAA, ISO27001) and implementing security controls in cloud environments.

· Familiarity with serverless architectures using AWS Lambda and other AWS serverless services.

THE ROLE

As a Senior Quality Engineer at Khan Academy, you’ll be deep in development doing test planning, extensive test development, test automation, and test execution in support of project goals and in collaboration with others on your project team. You Will

We are looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test (Automation, Load & Performance Testing) to develop and execute exploratory and automated tests to ensure product quality. SDET responsibilities include understanding system requirements, designing and implementing tests and in some cases debugging and defining corrective actions. You will also review system requirements and track quality assurance metrics (e.g. defect densities and open defect counts.)

  • Review requirements, specifications and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback
  • Create detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases
  • Create System, Resiliency and Performance verification test plans and test cases
  • Estimate, prioritize, plan and coordinate testing activities
  • Design, develop and execute automation scripts using open source tools
  • Identify, record, document thoroughly and track bugs
  • Perform thorough regression testing when bugs are resolved
  • Develop and apply testing processes for new and existing products to meet client needs
  • Liaise with internal teams (e.g. developers and product managers) to identify system requirements
  • Monitor debugging process results
  • Investigate the causes of non-conforming software and train users to implement solutions
  • Track quality assurance metrics, like defect densities and open defect counts
  • Stay up-to-date with new testing tools and test strategies

You Have

  • 3+ Years of experience
  • Experience with performance, resiliency and/or security testing is a must
  • Experience working with Chaos Monkey, JMeter, NodeJS  is preferred.
  • Strong programming skills in one of the languages such as: Java/Javascript.
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject
  • Proven work experience in software quality assurance
  • Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools and processes
  • Experience testing SPA and REST based API’s in microservices based software
  • Experience in writing clear, concise and comprehensive test plans and test cases
  • Experience is QA automation tools, frameworks and libraries
  • Hands-on experience with both white box and black box testing
  • Hands-on experience with automated testing tools and libraries
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process
  • Experience testing high scalable distributed systems is a must
  • Knowledge of CI/CD and experience working with Jenkins or similar tools.

Senior Site Reliability Engineering Manager, reports to Director of Engineering, DevOps COE. As the leader of our SRE pillar in the DevOps COE, you will lead the technical strategy and vision for our reliability practices for our mobile application. We invite you to be part of our team, driving the transformation of our reliability engineering subject area by working closely with our Engineering community, Technical Leads, Product, and Architecture teams.

Responsibilities

  • Has an oversight on design decisions and guides team to achieve key results for products assigned to them
  • Resolves issues using engineering principles and builds proactive design solutions for potential failures.
  • Take charge of a team of site reliability engineers who are responsible for developing a continuous reliability approach and implementing crucial site reliability engineering practices.
  • Design and drive monitoring, alerting, ticket reporting strategies to measure SLA, SLO, MTTI, MTTR and align with management expectations to reduce/minimize prod downtime
  • Guide site reliability automation to help eliminate manual toil and build a self-healing capability
  • Participate in selection of appropriate automation tools, defining technology, quality, experience and implementation standards and practices within own technical domain

"The salary range for the role is $146350 - $186590 per year." 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Technology or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years professional experience as a Site Reliability Engineer with at least 3+ years as a people manager or similar positions
  • Experience with SRE design to address reliability and resiliency with availability
  • Experience in working in a cloud environment
  • Experience in mobile development on iOS and Android
  • Strong experience with DevOps (CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins or similar; Git/GitHub)
  • Proven skills in high availability and scalability design, as well as performance monitoring and testing
  • Extremely comfortable with production environments, firewalls, and networking
  • Proven expertise in deploying, observing, altering, logging, and monitoring systems (New Relic, Data dog or something similar) with a dedication to predictive analysis.
  • Experience collaborating with colleagues, showing proficiency in interpersonal and written communication.
