We’re hiring seasoned engineers to join our teams that work on customer-facing products, developing features and iterating across our platform. As a Gusto Software Engineer at this level, you’ll oversee projects end-to-end by influencing initial feature specs, building backend APIs, writing frontend code, and overseeing ongoing improvements for deployed features. Here’s what you’ll do day to day:

  • Architect, build, and test Gusto’s product suite the spans across Payroll, Benefits, HR, Time, Tax Credits, and more
  • Mentor other engineers to help solve some of the hardest technical problems out there in very complex domains and at a large scale
  • Help scale one of the largest Ruby/Rails and Javascript/React applications in the world
  • Collaborate with our Product Management and Design teams to understand customer pain points, come up with solutions, and then prototype, iterate, and launch daily
  • Build a product that our customers genuinely love

Here’s what we’re looking for:

    • Successful applicants typically have 8+ years of software development experience
    • Experience owning multi-quarter projects that solve complex engineering problems and make measurable customer impact at scale
    • Experience building scalable solutions that eliminate customer pain
    • Ability to effectively communicate across engineering teams and with business stakeholders
    • Experience in, or interest working in, Ruby on Rails 
    • Ability to mentor engineers to maximize their performance and impact
    • Experience with large scale refactors, performance and reliability issues, and a strong sense of ownership over all aspects of your product area

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $164,000/yr to $204,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $199,000/yr to $247,000/yr for San Francisco, New York & Seattle. Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.


Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 daysper week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas. 

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.

  • Willingness to work on frontend (Vue.js / JavaScript / TypeScript, HTML) and / or backend development (Java, Python)
  • You care about code quality, continuous refactoring and want to share your knowledge of functional programming within the company

Purpose of the Job
 

As the first UX Engineer fully dedicated to the 6sense design system (6DS), you will help build an enterprise-level design system that elevates our products and improves team efficiency. In addition to acting as the technical liaison between UX and Engineering, you will deliver design system components that are easy for designers and developers to use. As a Senior Frontend Engineer, you’ll work with a cross-functional team of web, mobile, and backend engineers to help solve complex problems that will directly influence the direction of the digital asset space. The Role: Staff Software Engineer (Frontend)

As a Senior Frontend Engineer, you’ll work with a cross-functional team of web, mobile, and backend engineers to help solve complex problems that will directly influence the direction of the digital asset space. As part of this role, you’ll help drive customer experience improvements to set us apart in the industry and build a world-class crypto exchange. If you get excited about solving technical challenges that directly impact our customers, clients, and the rest of the Gemini team, we’d love to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to design and deliver high-quality features on Gemini platform.
  • Build efficient and reusable UI components and architect reliable, performant, and maintainable solutions. Review other software engineers’ code for correctness, style, and information security concerns.
  • Own the DevOps lifecycle for a product; building, validating and maintaining high quality products through its lifetime.
  • Provide technical input and knowledge to the planning, design, and requirements process for new products and features.
  • Lead scoping and effort estimation exercises of complex initiatives, and lead tech debt management best practices.
  • Mentor less tenured engineers and onboarding new team members.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • You have at least 8 years of experience building consumer-facing web applications at scale.
  • You are comfortable working with JavaScript/Typescript.
  • You are a React.js expert.
  • You have knowledge of web best practices and stay informed about innovations in the web industry and the ability to bring in adoption for the same.
  • You have a strong understanding of UX/UI concepts and a demonstrated record of design and product sensibility.
  • You have the ability to work closely across global teams (and time-zones), across cross-functional stakeholders and manage inter dependencies.
  • You have a customer and product-focused mindset, with the ability to make well-reasoned tradeoffs between speed and quality.
  • You have the ability to adapt and handle multiple competing priorities in collaboration with peers.

  • Knowledge and experience of Systems Design
    • You’ve built a web application, either professionally or as a hobbyist, and will be able to explain your design choices clearly during the interview process
    • Able to hear a clear, non-technical description of an Application (“It is a chat room, for our 150 most important users”) and quickly determine which Compute, Data, and Security components are needed to build this application

Your Role

Hudl’s Front-End Platform team accelerates web development for our 400+ member product team, and improves the web experience for our 8M+ customers. We’re looking for an experienced Engineer with deep front-end expertise to expand the platform.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll:

  • Develop. You’ll help expand Hudl’s front-end platform and make it the standard across Hudl. Whether it’s discovery work, documentation, design reviews or implementation, you’ll do what it takes to ensure a robust, performant, and easy-to-use platform that’s also maintainable, scalable, accessible and secure.
  • Build infrastructure. You’ll use your strong AWS and Terraform knowledge to help design and maintain front-end infrastructure. Responsibilities like setting up a CDN for a Jamstack app, or maintaining infrastructure for server-side rendering, get you pumped up.
  • Serve as a consultant. With your general expertise in front-end development, and knowledge of Hudl’s front-end platform in particular, you’ll support teams performing front-end work by answering questions, reviewing pull requests, participating in design reviews, and providing feedback on project plans.

We'd like to hire someone for this role who lives near our office in London, but we're also open to remote candidates in the UK.

Must-Haves

  • Front-end expertise. You have extensive experience developing front-ends with TypeScript and React. You have either led, or played a key role in the development of, large scale web applications. You’re familiar with design systems and their role in ensuring a consistent, intuitive and accessible experience for users.
  • Experience working with front-end infrastructure. You have strong AWS and Terraform experience and can mentor the team to expand its Jamstack environment, or server-side rendering infrastructure, to support new use cases.

The Department: Platform

Our Platform organization’s purpose is to enable Gemini to scale effectively and empower our engineering teams to focus on building innovative financial products and experiences for individuals around the world. Platform focuses around building a scalable and secure foundations platform, enabling Engineering to deploy, validate, and operate their services in production, improve resiliency of the service and increase organizational efficiency by reducing operational toil and increase system efficiency through architectural evolution.

The Client Platform team provides a horizontal function that supports and maintains core client development for web and mobile, providing the GraphQL service, testing infrastructure, frontend CI/CD pipeline development, maintaining the Hubble Design System and providing standards for future client development. The team’s mission is to be the force multiplier for other client teams so that they can deliver with quality and speed.

The Role: Principal Software Engineer

You will be a core part of leading Gemini’s mobile client development practices, both by contributing to and adopting modern tooling for the mobile client from both a client architecture and CI process standpoint, working cross-functionally across Gemini’s engineering teams to influence and shape our development practices and culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive architectural decisions that will advance the mobile app to a modern development stack.
  • Establish and automate the enforcement of best practices in mobile development and code quality.
  • Lead the initiatives to architect solutions to improve the performance of the mobile application.
  • Monitor app performance and identify and debug performance related issues using observability tooling.
  • Collaborate and lead on scoping, planning and executing on cross-functional projects that benefit the client application
  • Implement solutions that further the improvement of developer experience with app architecture that scales and is reliable.
  • Work closely with relevant stakeholders for the mobile client to execute on architectural rollout strategies.
  • Play a key role in technical evaluation of potential tools, libraries and vendor contracts.
  • Ensure that the mobile app adheres to security standards and compliance requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years in mobile development and 5+ years in React Native development.
  • Proficient in Swift/Objective-C and/or Java/Kotlin for native mobile platforms.
  • Experience implementing navigation libraries and strategies.
  • Demonstrable experience in debugging and improving React Native performance.
  • Experience in completing large scale migrations and refactoring of a codebase.
  • Familiarity with CI processes like Github Actions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of crypto and/or blockchain.
  • Experience in implementing shared codebases between web and mobile.

Salary Range: The base salary range for this role is between $198,000 - $247,000 in the State of New York, the State of California and the State of Washington. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate’s compensation, we consider a number of factors including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.
