Upwork is looking for an experienced Senior/Lead Flutter Engineer to join our Flutter Platform Team, where we are at the forefront of revolutionizing mobile app development. As a Flutter Developer, you will have a key role in promoting company-wide acceptance of Flutter for delivering exceptional mobile experiences. Work in partnership with our skilled engineers and designers to create state-of-the-art applications that redefine industry benchmarks.

Work/Project Scope:

  • design, develop, test, maintain, and deploy software using the Flutter framework and Dart language;
  • integrate Flutter Modules in native Android Apps;
  • develop user interface components and implement them by following well-known Flutter / Dart workflows and practices;
  • communicate with the product and engineering leads to ensure the successful implementation of business and project objectives;
  • perform a code review of team members' commits and pull-requests;
  • participate in testing, quality assurance, and bug fixes.

Must Haves (Required Skills):

  • 7+ years of professional software development experience;
    • 2 years of experience developing and delivering Flutter based apps;
    • 5 years of experience developing mobile apps natively in Android;
  • experience of working in distributed global software development teams;
  • good understanding of state management, Flutter flavors, and app architecture;
  • self-directed and challenge-driven: a high degree of self-motivation and a keen interest in autonomously addressing and solving complex problems, with a focus on innovative and effective solutions;
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills: outstanding ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders, ensuring clear, concise, and productive interactions;
  • strong command of English;
  • coordinate with the team during core hours (8:00 to 11:00 am PT), with occasional availability until 12:00 pm PT for critical matters.

Overview

SAM Labs is looking for a Senior Flutter Developer with strong experience in cross-platform mobile and/or web development built on modern Flutter and Dart practices to help maintain and extend our mobile and web applications. You will be responsible for architecting and implementing robust multi-platform solutions, ensuring consistent performance across platforms, and establishing best practices for Flutter development and integration. As a core team member, you will play a crucial role in shaping our software strategy and execution.

This is a fully remote position reporting to the Lead Developer and Director of Product.

What You'll Do:

  • Design and Develop: Extend and maintain cross-platform applications using Flutter, ensuring a consistent and high-quality user experience across Web, iOS, and Android.
  • Collaborate Cross-functionally: Work closely with the Lead Developer and Director of Product to define technical requirements and architect efficient mobile solutions.
  • API Integration: Design and implement robust API integration layers to interact with new and existing backend implementations, ensuring efficient data synchronization and offline capabilities.
  • UI/UX Implementation: Transform design specifications into pixel-perfect, responsive interfaces while maintaining Flutter's widget composition best practices.
  • State Management: Implement and optimize state efficient management solutions, ensuring clean architecture and maintainable code.
  • Native Features: Integrate platform-specific features and capabilities through native plugins and custom platform channels when required.
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize application performance, memory usage, and battery consumption across different devices and platforms.
  • Testing Strategy: Develop and maintain comprehensive testing strategies, including widget tests, integration tests, and end-to-end testing using Flutter's testing framework.
  • Build and Deploy:Contribute to maintaining and improving the CI/CD pipeline, and manage the release of apps to the App Store and Play Store.
  • Code Quality: Implement and maintain coding standards, perform code reviews, and ensure proper documentation of components and features.
  • Stay Current: Keep up with Flutter ecosystem updates, emerging web/mobile development trends, and best practices to continuously improve our development stack.

What You Bring:

  • Experience: 4+ years in Flutter mobile and/or web development, demonstrating proficiency in architecting cross-platform solutions.
  • Flutter Expertise: Deep understanding of Flutter framework, Dart programming language, and the widget lifecycle.
  • Best Practices: Strong understanding of mobile/web development principles, design patterns, and best practices.

We're building a mobile first investment  app that lets advisers manage their clients' investments entirely through their Smartphone. 

          The day to day responsibilities 

          • Engage in the full software development lifecycle: requirements gathering with stakeholders, working as a team to build and test features, managing deployment and supporting the service in production. 
          • Work as part of a distributed team made up of self-motivated and collaborative individuals. Much of our communication is remote and async so good communication skills are key. 
          • Iteratively make improvements to a new product while aligning to our mutually agreed design and architectural principles. 
          • Always looking for ways we can improve our product, processes and practices. We don’t like friction and waste. 
          • Automated testing, continuous integration and continuous deployment. We are huge proponents of automation. 
          • Working outside of your specialism when needed. While all our team members have a specialism, we don’t let that restrain us. Our engineers jump in to help get things done even in technologies out of their core competency. 

          Your skills and attributes 

          • Excellent programming and problem solving skills 
          • Understanding of relevant software design patterns and paradigms, such as OOAD, DDD, MVC, microservices, containers/orchestration or event-driven architecture 
          • Experience in creating performant, scalable, secure and well tested code. 
          • You take ownership of tasks and problems, clearing roadblocks and pulling in other people to help when needed. 
          • Experience working with Investment or Pensions platforms would be an advantage
