VetsEZ is seeking a Lead Technical Architectto be a part of a remote team to support the Department of Veterans Affairs. This candidate should have extensive experience and knowledge of designing, coding, testing, debugging, and documenting software in a variety of programming languages. They will also have a knowledge of the latest programming languages and techniques, along with extensive experience in creating strategies for developing IT systems and applications.

The candidate must reside within the continental US.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all aspects of Agile software development, including design, implementation, and deployment.
  • Has experience in evaluating alternative approaches and selecting optimal approaches.
  • Collaborate with Business Analyst and UX/UI designers to translate visual concepts into functional online experiences.
  • Ensure web pages are optimized for performance and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Implement front end solutions using HTML, CSS, JS - preferably with ReactJS. Experience with Redux for state management and Nginx servers.
  • Basic scripting language and frameworks (JavaScript, Angular, React, Node.js, etc.)
  • Experience with back-end languages such as Java 17 and Python and utilizing Java Spring Boot for microservices and APIs.
  • Basic knowledge of containers using Docker, experience in Kubernetes and EKS is a plus. Managing containers using Rancher.
  • Experience in Git Hub Actions and knowledge of the workflows is a must-have.
  • Managing Databases with Postgres and extensive SQL knowledge.
  • Working alongside testers, knowledge in both Cypress and JUnit is useful.
  • Maintain and enhance existing web applications based on user feedback and business requirements.
  • Adhere to best practices in web design, development, and security.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
  • Lead the development team and production support team to ensure the applications are working as expected.
  • Work with the project manager to provide updates and progress on development projects.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a Full Stack Developer or similar role, with a minimum of 8 years of experience.
  • Experience leading a dev team, including developers and testers.
  • Experience working under a Solutions Architect for planning future roadmap.
  • Experience in Git Hub, especially Git Hub actions for the CICD.
  • Experience with JIRA and Confluence within a GOV Space.
  • Proficiency in all areas of full stack, including front and back end and database.
  • Strong understanding of web development best practices and web security measures.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies, preferably SAFe Agile.

About this role:

We’re looking for somebody with deep experience building, scaling, and tuning complex search products. We’re rethinking the search experience in Monzo to enable 10 million customers to find what they’re looking for – transactions, products, help articles, people, and more – in as few keystrokes as possible. 

This role sits in our Core Banking product collective, collaborating closely with ML Platform and a range of product teams across the business with a stake in how search results are ranked and displayed. You’ll be a key influence in the long-term product strategy for search at Monzo.

Initially, you’ll own 3 key challenges:

  1. Launch a global search experienceworking end-to-end from customer experience in our mobile apps to backend systems, indexes, and data pipelines
  2. Scale search to support all Monzo’s account types (incl. Business Banking, US) and internationalisation
  3. Optimise resultswith machine learning models and build feedback loops to measure search performance (e.g. latency and relevance) 

As a Staff Engineer:

A Staff Engineer at Monzo is a technical (IC) leadership position. As a Staff Engineer in the Core Banking collective, you will:

  • Partner with engineering leadership in the collective and provide technical leadership on the search domain across Monzo’s broader engineering organisation.
  • Work collaboratively with leaders in product, data, research, and design to identify and execute on opportunities that further the organisation’s goals and strategy.
  • Oscillate between contributing to high-level planning and strategy and organisational leadership and diving deep into the execution of problems and getting hands-on.
  • Use your expert knowledge and experience to lead architectural discussions for the most complex systems in the collective. 
  • Keep a high bar for technical excellence in the collective, through your own work, highlighting the work of others and calling out when things haven’t quite met the bar.
  • Pro-actively mentor, sponsor and up-level engineers.

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team leading development on our client facing web application (GRiD) and will be involved in leading all areas of the software development life cycle. As a Team Lead in the Technology Team, you will be empowered to drive both technical and user-focused improvements to our products and solutions; continually improving our tooling and delivering sustainable and effective software solutions.
 

About the Day-to-Day Responsibilities of the Role

  • Overseeing architectural improvements to our backend systems in line with our forward planning and technology strategy
  • Ownership of our APIs used by both internal and external clients, enabling data integrations with Maplecroft data.
  • Enabling new and existing applications to capitalized on our innovative data management and ETL platform.
  • Manage an agile team and lead requirements gathering, refinement, and delivery of user-focused improvements.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with management and other team leads on technical projects.
  • Deliver high-quality, maintainable well-tested code that meets user requirements.
  • Peer review other developers' work in a thorough and constructive manner
  • Work collaboratively with other Developers, Project Owners, UX, designers, and QA engineers to deliver high-quality solutions.

Qualifications

About You and How You Can Excel in This Role
For our products we use a variety of backend technologies with Django being the key framework used to provide the API to our Angular based user interface.  For this role, you will need to have a deep understanding of both Python and Django and be excited to apply that knowledge in creation of applications and APIs to fulfill the requirements of our planned SaaS platform in 2025.  You will be eager to understand the full set of application technologies already applied in existing applications and make best use of that extensive toolkit and broad range of AWS services in building out new features or products.
Required
•    Industry experience in working with Agile software development practices
•    To show leadership experience in prior projects or teams
•    A deep understanding and commercial experience of Python and Django
•    Good understanding of frontend web technologies and how web browsers behave and perform
•    Very knowledgeable in REST APIs, both in authoring and consuming
•    Good level of experience in SQL and database interaction
•    Knowledge and experience in applying Web Security best practices
•    Good understanding of git and working collaboratively on team-level code bases

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor client’s critical application performance and availability
  • Summarize and review performance trends in operations status meetings

  • Maintain and enhance dashboards and reports to meet requirements of IT and business users
  • On-board additional applications for monitoring
  • Mentor and train customers on the Dynatrace Platform and Best Practices
