As a  Staff Backend Engineer, you’ll … 

  • Architect, design, and implement scalable multi-tenant backend services and APIs.
  • Work on technologies such as Node.js, Javascript/Typescript, Next.js, MongoDB, GraphQL, Apollo, Amazon Web Services EC2, S3, Lambdas, Kafka, and more.
  • Demonstrable solid experience and deep expertise in multiple technical domains.

About you 

You’ll thrive as a/an Staff Backend Engineer if you:

  • Have 7+ years of experience developing and deploying web applications, with a proven track record of shipping code that solves business challenges.
  • Are proficient with Node.js, TypeScript, and Next.js, and can design and write scalable services and APIs using Express.js and MongoDB.
  • Have experience debugging production issues across complex, multi-service architectures, and at multiple levels of the stack.
  • Proven experience building complex web systems that scale efficiently while delivering a seamless user experience.
  • Are adept at working with Stripe and/or billing systems to build reliable, secure payment processing solutions.
  • Experience with testing frameworks (e.g. Jest, Mocha, Playwright, Cypress). 
  • Are comfortable working in an agile, safe-to-fail, environment.
  • Have a growth mindset, continually looking for opportunities to improve code, systems, and team processes.

Job Description

The Back-End Engineer (BEE) is responsible for completing back-end tasks and providing support to multiple applications. The BEE can work independently in basic tasks, assuming ownership for the design and programming required. For more complex work, this individual will rely on existing designs and seek guidance from more senior positions. The BEE should also be able to provide reasonable estimates for tasks.

A BEE works with multiple applications and a variety of back-end technologies including PHP, .NET, and Java, and is comfortable with content management systems and e-commerce platforms.

KEY FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with Creative, Business, Technology and QA teams to ensure quality and punctual software development.
  • Manage back-end coding and the integration with front-end (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) layers.
  • Implement technical solutions following the capability’s best practices.
  • Debug or troubleshoot simple issues in existing software applications.
  • Provide feedback on policies and procedures when an opportunity for improvement exists.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish positive, trust-based relationships with Offshore and Onshore team members.
  • Effectively prioritize their own tasks.
  • Own the creation of documentation of projects and present improvement ideas.
  • Participate actively in team meetings aiding in tasks estimations and provide accurate risks assessments.
  • Proactively participate in knowledge transfer and ramp up of new team members.
  • Manage difficult situations by proactively seeking solutions within the team.
  • Proactively seek feedback and create action plans based on it.
  • Own their tasks and their impact within their account.
  • Create craft strategies and approaches.
  • Participate proactively in the Craft initiatives such as creating and or presenting workshops.
  • Develop and implement innovation of world class business process workflows, and next generation process technologies for Publicis clients.
  • Support the discovery, design, recommendation, development, implementation, and ongoing support of client process workflows.
  • Participate in the continuous growth of the organization’s collaborators.
  • Ensure the continuous improvement of the processes related to the accounts, projects and teams in which they are involved.
  • Participate in the Performance program as a Performance manager.

Qualifications

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • More than 2 years of software development experience.
  • AWS development background and experience in NodeJS as their primary development language.
  • Work experience designing and developing web applications using various technologies such as Java, .NET, PHP, Ruby, Python, JavaScript, and web services.
  • Basic work experience with data storage patterns and practices, namely relational (SQL) and/or non-relational (NoSQL, MongoDB) platforms.

    • Experience with: Node.JS, JavaScript/TypeScript, working with NoSQL databases, building data processes from start to finish
    • 3+ years of professional software development experience
    • Bachelor's degree in computer science (or similar) or equivalent practical experience
    • A track record of shipping high-quality software from start to finish
    • A solid foundation in computer science fundamentals with sound knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and system design
    • Comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment
    • Self-aware and have a desire to learn and improve

    Bonus points for

    • Example of code projects you’ve worked on (e.g. GitHub, BitBucket)
    • Experience with: GraphQL, Amazon Web Services (AWS), MongoDB, building performant distributed systems
    • Experience working with large, complex data sets from a variety of sources

    Job Description

    • You’ll use your skills to help solve real-world problems, while learning about the food, consumer products, and personalized nutrition ecosystem
    • You’ll work across the Pinto Services stack using tools and languages like JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, MongoDB, GraphQL, AWS
    • You’ll work with our Research, Nutrition, & Data Analyst teams to gain a deep knowledge of underlying use cases in food data and nutrition
    • You’ll envision and create new features for our core data platform, which processes large, complex data sets from a variety of sources 
    • You’ll envision and create tools that contribute to and enhance our end-to-end data pipeline
