Job Description

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will need to be skilled in Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud computing platforms (ex: AWS), CI-CD with Jenkins, Automation with bash/python scripting, Git, Nginx, MySQL or PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Redis.

This position will also play a significant role in setting up and supporting all aspects of designing, building, securing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure for the software platform. The candidate will be responsible for day-to-day operations, solving technical problems of comprehensive scope and complexity, and maintaining the security of AWS cloud infrastructure.

If you have the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly then the below applies to you:

  • Collaborating in small, focused Agile teams with experienced engineers to perform full life cycle application and infrastructure process development;
  • Awareness of the software delivery lifecycle strategic roadmaps that enable the success of quarterly objectives. This includes defining User Stories to enable the build-out of the strategic roadmap;
  • Proposes and implements new software delivery pipeline process steps and ensures that all software components take advantage of new capabilities;
  • Building open communication with Product Owners, Software QA Engineers, Software Engineers, Project managers to understand and transform software engineering and IT process requirements into automated features;
  • This job can require 24/7 availability for deployments, maintenance activities from time to time due to the nature of the project or work activity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field; with 3+ years of industry experience including project management or systems analysis or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;

Must have:

  • Linux certifications like RHCSA, RHCE.
  • AWS certification like SAA/SOA or relevant experience;
  • Working with AWS in a serverless context (Fargate, Lambda, CloudFormation, APIGateway, Cognito, etc).
  • Professional skills in designing & deploying scalable, highly available, cost-effective, fault-tolerant systems & infrastructure at on premises and AWS using EKS Fargate, EC2, RDS, IAM, S3, ELB, VPC, EBS, Route 53, Auto-Scaling, CloudWatch, etc. services.
  • Professional knowledge in Containerized platform (Docker & Kubernetes). 

Good to have:

  • Professional skills in Load Balancer (Nginx, HAProxy);
  • Professional skills in MySQL/PostgreSQL (Including Replication, and Performance tuning);
  • Professional skills in Linux (RHEL, CentOS);
  • Knowledge in scripting language Bash and/or (Python/PHP);
  • Knowledge of infrastructure as code, preferred Ansible or Terraform, would be a plus.
  • Skills in troubleshooting high availability applications on PHP/Python/Node.js using the above stacks;
  • Familiarity with GIT, Jenkins, Elasticsearch, Grafana, Kibana is a plus;

About the Role

As an Identity and Access Management (IAM) Security Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and scaling identity and access management solutions for Cloudflare’s internal workforce and workloads. You will be responsible for safeguarding our systems, applications, and data by ensuring secure user access, authentication, and authorization mechanisms.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, test, and deploy IAM solutions across authentication, authorization, and accounting 
  • Leverage Cloudflare products to secure our identities
  • Build SSO integrations leveraging SAML, OIDC, OAuth, and SCIM
  • Build and manage the Identity Governance and Administration platform
  • Develop automated roles leveraging RBAC and ABAC
  • Build and manage an access certification platform 
  • Build and manage a Privileged Access Management (PAM) platform
  • Provide operational support of IAM systems including an on-call rotation that may include after hours calls

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience

Security engineers take part in a wide variety of tasks and projects in the team. One individual is not expected to know everything, but a working knowledge in several of the following areas is required: 

  • Strong understanding of identity federation (SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect, etc.)
  • Experience implementing Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) solutions including lifecycle management, SCIM, birthright access (RBAC, ABAC), and access certifications
  • Experience with secure configuration of containerized application platforms (e.g. Kubernetes)
  • Advanced scripting experience (Python, TypeScript, Bash, etc.)
  • Experience implementing Zero Trust controls
  • Experience integrating with applications and SaaS solutions 
  • Experience with Identity and Access Management policy application and enforcement

Many of Cloudflare’s critical internal services run on Kubernetes. These services include those responsible for Cloudflare’s control plane and APIs, data analytics and other internal tools used to manage our global network. What You'll Do

  • Improve Kubernetes, Ceph and Prometheus automation, configuration management and other tooling 
  • Design scalable and resilient systems that can keep up with company growth
  • Improve the efficiency of managing resources such as CPU, bandwidth and storage
  • Harden the platform against security threats and resource contention issues
  • Improve our GitOps systems and practices
  • Work with app teams to understand their potential challenges and help them choose the best way to architect their systems on Kubernetes
  • Contribute back to the open source community
    • Some of our favorite open source projects include: Prometheus, Rook.io, Kubevirt, Contour, Envoy, Consul, cdk8s, Vault, Ceph, Cloudprober, Etcd, Calico, Terraform
  • Help respond and prevent incidents impacting core platforms

What You'll Need

  • Experience managing production Kubernetes or similar orchestration platforms
  • Recent experience with configuration management frameworks such as SaltStack or Ansible
  • Knowledge of how container runtimes work inside of Linux (isolation, storage, and networking)
  • Ability to work with codebases in Bash, TypeScript and Go
  • A firm grasp of IP networking including routing and iptables
  • Excellent debugging skills in a Linux environment
  • Source control experience including branching, merging and rebasing
  • The ability to break down complex problems into smaller pieces, provide options, talk through trade-offs and drive the effort to solve the problem

Bonus Points

  • Experience operating Kubernetes on-premise at scale in capacities including SRE, systems design or architecture

The person in this role is responsible for the continued operation and updating of our legacy application and its environmental dependencies. This includes evaluating and deploying updates to the application itself as well as upgrades of everything from the operating systems to the Postgresql database. What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Configuring, managing and upgrading sizable production Postgresql database in multiple environments in the AWS ecosystem without any downtime

Qualifications

We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to help build and maintain the infrastructure powering our ecommerce platform. You Will:

  • Actively seek and identify opportunities to improve the availability and performance of the system by applying the learnings from monitoring and observation.
  • Independently lead key projects in support of business and technology strategy.
  • Use automation extensively to design, configure, manage, and monitor systems in support of our product development teams
  • Manage Infrastructure through automation (Infrastructure as Code - terraform knowledge preferred)

As a Principal Site Reliability Engineer, your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Implement and maintain monitoring systems to track the performance and availability of Business-critical systems and infrastructure. Use metrics to identify trends and potential issues.
  • Respond to system outages and performance issues, performing root cause analysis to prevent recurrence
  • Develop scripts and tools to automate repetitive tasks, such as deployment, scaling, and monitoring
  • Work closely with development teams, operations, and other stakeholders to ensure that new services and features are reliable and scalable
  • Work on reducing latency and improving the speed of data transmission across the network
  • Define and measure Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Indicators (SLIs) to ensure services meet required performance and availability targets+
  • Conduct postmortems after incidents to identify what went wrong and what can be improved
  • Work with Lead Application owners and internal Change Management to review code changes and support deployments
  • Lead the team of site reliability engineers onshore/offshore, mentor them for support activities required for system reliability
  • Must have ability to communicate and abstract the messaging to multiple target audiences including Sr business & IT leadership, technology, and business teams.

Qualifications

WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, telecommunications, or similar areas, with a minimum of 10 years software engineering experience, including a minimum of 5 years as a site reliability engineer
  • Proven track record of managing mission critical customer facing applications for reliability
  • 5+ years of experience supporting operations and maintenance for cloud-native applications in production that are fault-tolerant, self-healing, scalable and high available
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail to identify and resolve complex production issues
  • Deep understanding of cloud computing platforms (GCP) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Solid experience with core Kubernetes concepts such as Pods, Workloads, Services, Ingress/Egress, Deployments, ConfigMaps, HPA, Liveliness Probe, and Secrets
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure as code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, ArgoCD) and CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong experience working with integration of code quality tool (SonarQube or Checkmarx) with CI/CD pipeline
  • Strong experience with monitoring, logging, and observability tools like, Splunk, GCP log, Dynatrace etc.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, effectively communicating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Must have proven written and verbal communication skills, including presentations using tools like PowerPoint
  • Must have ability to communicate and abstract the messaging to multiple target audiences including Sr business & IT leadership, technology and business teams
