Senior Digital Strategist

Middle Seat is hiring a Remote Senior Digital Strategist

Senior Digital Strategists run Middle Seat’s largest email programs for progressive candidates, political committees, and nonprofits. As an experienced emailer, this job is an opportunity to work on some of the most notable fundraising and advocacy programs in our space. You will take the lead on strategy and execution with some of our most important clients.

This role is part of the bargaining unit.

Responsibilities

  • Write compelling emails asking supporters to donate to our clients
  • Work with clients to get emails edited, approved, and scheduled
  • Code, produce, target and test mass email communications
  • Use multiple different CRMs to run email programs (ActionKit, Action Network, NationBuilder, MailChimp, etc.)
  • Analyze metrics and report back to clients on performance, best practices, test results
  • Present detailed monthly reports to clients
  • Serve as a day-to-day contact with clients.
  • Take part in brainstorms, team meetings, conference calls, etc.
  • Develop monthly content calendars and goals for clients
  • A/B test everything you do
  • Produce ActBlue fundraising pages and tests
  • Write copy for landing pages
  • Contribute to new client pitches
  • Supervise junior staff as needed
  • Run training sessions
  • Give feedback on programming and drafts
  • Project management
  • Lead on setting up new client accounts
  • Work with our product team to develop landing pages and templates
  • Setup CRMs
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in email fundraising (or similar)
  • Mastery of 3+ common CRMs or fundraising platforms (ActionKit, ActBlue, ActionNetwork, NationBuilder, etc.)
  • Mastery of email writing for fundraising
  • Proficiency in HTML and CSS as needed to run major email programs
  • Able to manage large clients unassisted
  • Creative writing chops
  • Enthusiasm for data and testing fundraising content
  • A desire to play a role in fundraising for major political campaigns, nonprofits, and causes
  • Attention to detail
  • Salary starts between $72,000 and $90,000

Strategic Leadership

  • Takes the lead on high-level decision making, setting the corporate direction and strategy in coordination with our management team
  • Creates and maintains strategic growth plans for the company
  • Works with partners and management team to mold and set the company’s values, vision, and direction

    • Hold or schedule regular trainings for managers to help them establish effective supervisory relationships and leadership skills
  • Creates new job descriptions at the management level
  • Work closely with People and Culture lead to foster and implement internal equity and inclusion strategies
  • Work with management team to plan and execute staff trainings
  • Develop cross-departmental processes for managing and forecasting capacity needs
  • Think holistically about the culture and health of Middle Seat and new processes to improve efficiency and staff retention
  • Work with People and Culture lead and department leads to develop new structures and role definition within departments
  • Work with the People and Culture director and department leads to discipline and handle termination of employees as per the organization’s policies

Financial Oversight

  • Works with our accounting team to shape and execute on firmwide and department-specific budgets, goals, and projections
  • Works with the partners to establish short-term objectives and long-range goals, and related plans and policies
  • Presents regular reports on the status of the company's operations to the partners and management team
  • Identifies opportunities to maximize revenue or reduce costs inside of budget
  • Identify and scope out new areas for business growth, sales and expansion

External Relations

  • Manage external vendors, partners and projects including but limited to: legal teams, CPA firms, data firms, security firms, anti-racist firms, and anti-harassment firms
  • From time to time, represent the business at sales meetings, in concert with Special Assistant, relevant team leads, and partners
  • Work with partners and management team to identify prospective client leads
  • As needed, take the lead on generating publicity for the firm — how can we tell our story on our website/social media, how can we tell our story in our proposals
  • Leads on union-leadership relations
    • Takes the lead in responding to labor management committee meeting questions
    • Work to develop a proactive relationship with union representatives and staff to create a sustainable work environment

As an experienced emailer, this job is an opportunity to work on some of the most notable fundraising and advocacy programs in our space. You will take the lead on strategy and execution with some of our most important clients. You will also learn to be an effective manager, mentor, and leader on the email team. This role is roughly 80% client work and 20% team management work.

Job Responsibilities

  • Write compelling fundraising and organizing emails
    • Writing embodies the voices and perspectives of our clients, with no edits needed
    • Expertly adapts writing to various calls-to-action
    • Writing always deploys effective theories of change
