ABOUT THE JOB

As Kanopi's Contract UX Strategist, you will be responsible for using qualitative and quantitative research to craft delightful and functional user experiences. You will be our in-house subject matter expert, often serving as the team's advisor responsible for defining the overall UX vision throughout the entire project lifecycle.

You will lead clients through the Discovery process, including but not limited to stakeholder interviews, user feedback collection, and data analysis. Your responsibilities will encompass crafting the Discovery strategy and translating it into deliverables like user flows, customer journey maps, competitor reviews, Information Architecture (IA), sitemaps, template identification, and initial prototypes.  

Your projects will challenge you to craft user-centered experiences and utilize a data-driven problem-solving approach. You can clearly and confidently articulate the "why" behind your decisions while balancing client desires and user needs. This position reports to Kanopi’s Director of Strategy and Creative.

PLEASE NOTE:
This is not a design position; we're looking for a Contract UX Strategist who will focus on discovery, research, and crafting strategic solutions that inform the design process.


RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role, you can expect to: 

  • Lead the entire lifecycle of user research from open-ended discovery to concept testing, including: 
    • IA, writing surveys, tree testing, and user journeys  
    • Synthesizing research techniques and data insights that lead to actionable strategic recommendations
    • Work collaboratively with Content team to formulate deep insights that blend UX and content strategy
  • Lead clients through and participate in Discovery and UX work sessions
  • Create project deliverables, including user flows, customer journey maps, IA, sitemaps, wireframes, etc.
  • Contribute and collaborate with the Creative Services team to help elevate deliverables
  • Contribute to Kanopi’s marketing efforts
  • Perform marketing activities on behalf of Kanopi, including but not limited to conducting webinars, participating in promotional videos, and representing the brand in public-facing events

ABOUT THE COMPENSATION & WORK REQUIREMENTS

This is a contract position. Hourly compensation is commensurate with experience. This is a 100% remote role, but you must live and be able to work in North America.

We are looking for candidates who have: 

  • 5+ years of professional experience in UX strategy
  • 3+ years of experience working within an agency setting, preferably remotely or with a distributed project team
  • A strong portfolio containing specific examples showcasing your UX process and outputs
  • The ability to translate high-level strategic concepts into easily digestible client-friendly information
  • The ability to offer valuable insights on projects, regardless of budget size
  • Inherent professionalism and responsiveness to client needs, including issues as they arise. 
  • General comfort context-switching between multiple projects in a fast-paced, multi-time-zone environment
  • Proactive verbal and written communication skills, and can respond quickly and remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment
  • Curiosity and initiative to learn and adapt to new applications and frameworks
  • Proven experience delivering high-quality work with an eye on time and budget

As a Contract Developer, your day-to-day includes spending your time hands-on developing and collaborating on sites while staying accountable to schedules, estimates, project requirements, and high standards of quality.

Your typical work week might include:

  • Site building and configuration.
  • Custom front end and theme layer development. (Drupal)
  • Custom module development, and the maintenance of existing custom code. (Drupal)
  • Writing custom plugins and themes. (WordPress)
  • Documenting code and processes, and participating in peer reviews.
  • Participating in client meetings and workshops.
  • Actively contributing to the continual improvement of our processes and product.

ABOUT THE COMPENSATION & WORK REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for candidates who…

  • Have 4+ years of related Drupal or WordPress experience.
  • Are experienced working in support (and are willing to do it).
  • Have worked in an agency environment, preferably in multiple time zones.
  • Show strong problem solving abilities, intelligence, and initiative.
  • Know the ins and outs of modern development workflows, including use of the command line, gitflow, containers, and dev/stage/prod environments.
  • Experience with pattern libraries or similar tools, like Storybook.
  • Deeply understand modern web standards and technologies.
  • Exhibit thoughtful, inclusive, and articulate communication skills, both in writing and in person.
  • Have a BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.
  • Have some React.js experience (this would be an awesome plus).
